Step 1: Collect a Flooring, Roofing, or Siding Sample
ITEL prices Like Kind and Quality flooring and matches roofing and siding styles based on specifications that are as close as possible to the original product. In order to accurately test, ITEL needs the cleanest, least damaged sample.
Sample Sizes:
Click the product names for more detailed instructions on collecting the sample.
- Carpet: 10" x 10" with as little residue and wear from traffic or damage as possible. Corners and closets can often yield low-traffic samples.
- Pad or Underlayment: 6" x 6" or larger.
- Ceramic, Porcelain, and Stone Tiles: 6" x 6" or the full tile if smaller. Note the color variation between tiles on the floor. Collect from the least damaged, least worn area of the floor.
- Vinyl: 2" x 2" or larger. As some patterns may contain different construction methods, include a portion of the pattern if available. Collect from the least damaged, least worn area of the floor.
- Laminate and Wood: full width of the plank and 10" long. Full-width pieces leftover from the original installation often make excellent samples.
- Asbestos Testing: sheet vinyl (2" x 2") and tile vinyl only. When sending tile for asbestos analysis, three samples taken from random areas of the flooring are required. For floors with multiple color tiles, collect three samples of each color.
- Roofing: a full height section and full length section is requested.
- Siding: a full height section, approximately 1 foot in length, that includes the nail hem and weep hole. If possible, the 1 foot sample should include the manufacturer's number, which is embossed or printed on the nail hem or back of the sample.
